A home setup needs a PC on 24/7, an emulator instance per account, and enough RAM to keep them all alive. Move it to a VPS and you pay for the server every month, plus proxies if you run more than a few accounts, plus your time every time an emulator crashes or the game updates.

Hosted on Apex, a farm is $1 a month and a fighting account $2.50, with servers and proxies included. For most fleets that is less than the electricity and VPS alone.
